PETS, AKA the Dragon, the Witch, and the Warlock, is a story about friendship and destiny. Written in the style of contemporary lit-fiction, it isn’t easy to classify, although I think of it as an urban fantasy love story with a sprinkling of magic. Written in first-person, present tense, the story follows Adam’s awakening as he discovers truths about himself that he really ought to know already. But for him, ignorance is bliss, and until Ophelia waltzes into his world, he’s been happy to avoid reality.
His exotic pet, Red, shares the blame for his astounding lack of self-awareness, but when Ophelia opens up about her own supernatural friend, Adam realises he’s not alone in the world, and maybe there’s more to learn. Together, he and Ophelia unravel the mysteries of their shared world and what it might mean for the future. Red’s been keeping secrets, but Ophelia’s presence forces him to reveal the truth to Adam, and in doing so, opens a new door to a very different future.
Set in Glasgow, Scotland, PETS is the foundation story in a novel universe of interlinked worlds, fantastical realms, and magic beyond belief. It’s a Gen-X fairytale for the modern age, for readers who seek something a little different, or who enjoy light-hearted stupidity tinged with otherworldly oddness..png)
